Ismael Ayala-Uribe

Ismael Ayala Uribe was a 39 year old Mexican Citizen who had come to the US with his parents when he was four years old and had previously been a DACA recipient.

Ismael had an arrest record which consisted entirely of nonviolent crimes including a DUI in 2015 for which he served 3 years probation and DUI in 2019 for which he served 120 days in jail and 5 year probation.

After his DUI convictions Ismael’s request for DACA renewal was denied and he was arrested in Fountain Valley CA for violation of immigration and nationality act while he was at work. Ismael worked at a car wash that he had been employed at for 15 years. After his arrest he was transferred to LA for removal proceedings and from LA, he was transferred to Adelanto ICE Processing Center in Adelanto, CA which is a for profit prison owned and operated by the GEO group.

According to ICE’s Death report Ismael was cleared for general population on August 22, 2025 by an LPN in his initial intake exam. At this time he had no noted chronic health conditions, only slightly elevated blood pressure.

Ismael first reported pain in his buttock on September 18, at the time an RN ordered anti inflammatory meds, fiber supplements and twice daily wellness checks for the next ten days. On September 21st Ismael was transferred to Victor Valley Global Medical Center after increased pain along with nausea, vomiting, sweating and abnormal vitals.

At the Hospital Ismael diagnosed with an abscess and hypotension and doctors considered surgery to drain the abscess. Healthcare staff also noted that he was calm and cooperative, the next day Ismael went into respiratory arrest. CPR was administered and he was moved to the ICU. Shortly thereafter he went into cardiac arrest and despite another round of CPR they were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at 2:32 AM.

According to Ismael’s family he had told them that he was feeling unwell and had asked for help, but that staff didn’t do anything. Another detainee called his family to tell them that guards had been called after Ismael had begun shaking and they had taken him to the hospital. Ismael’s Family says that was all that they had heard about his condition until Police Officers notified them that he had died.

Representative Judy Chu from the 28th District of CA has issued a formal letter demanding a full accounting of circumstances leading up to his death. 31 other politicians have signed on so far.
