Genry Ruiz Guillen

November 10, 1995 /January 23, 2025
Genry Ruiz Guillen was a 29 year old construction worker who was originally from Honduras. He came to the United States in 2023 seeking better opportunities. In June 2024 he was apprehended by local law enforcement on domestic violence charges and detained at Hillsborough County Jail, in Tampa Fl. On October 29, 2024, he was released to Pinellas County Jail, in Clearwater, FL and then transferred to Krome Immigrant Detention Center.
During his time at Krome Genry experienced numerous fainting spells and and dizziness. In December 2024 doctors documented that they had observed Genry experiencing seizures. He was later referred for mental health treatment following an incident where he observed mumbling incoherently, screaming and exhibiting uncooperative behavior. He was diagnosed with hyperosmolality and rhabdomyolysis. On January 23 he began experiencing difficulty breathing and died shortly afterwards.
When Interviewed by univision, his mother said that “The pain she carries inside is immeasurable.” She also said that he told her 3 times that he was fainting there. And when the communication with her son stopped she traveled to Krome in desperation for answers, but they didn’t give her any information, and only told her on February 24, 2025 via a phone call that he had died.
